A straight hole (slightly to right off ladies tee) but with sufficient trees to keep you focused. Prevailing wind is from the right. Trees and rough along the left collect many balls driven from the men’s tee, and further trees narrow the approach to the green. Out of bounds to the right.

A straight drive is required but beware the fairway bunker if you hit long. Avoid oak tree to the right. Depending on flag position, beware the slope at the front of the green.

Viewed from the tee, a large oak tree appears to block out the middle of the fairway and a slight dog-leg right leads on to the green. Many choose to drive over the tree but others hit left or right of it, though too far and the trees lining the fairway on both sides come into play.

Take care not to take on too much and play within your own ability. Left, right, under or over - just choose the right option for you.

Trees on both sides and a fairway bunker again call for an accurate tee shot. A good second shot into the prevailing wind can reach the green, but many golfers require three. Observe carefully the pin placement on the two-level green, with bunkers at both sides.

Middle to right of fairway will give the clearest approach.

Initially a generous fairway, but lined with trees and with fairway bunkering before a slight dog-leg left. This leads on to a green which is well protected by bunkers. The prevailing Westerly wind can provide assistance here. Out of bounds on right.

Keep drive in middle if possible. Right of fairway opens up the green but requires a longer second shot.

Mature trees line both sides of this picturesque par 3, with a backdrop of colourful rhododendrons in season, which may also catch any over-hit ball. The green is well guarded by bunkers and rolling semi-rough. Front to middle of green has a gentle downward slope.

Don't let the 140-yard fool you as this par 3 is tougher than it looks. Aim for centre green for all pin positions!

A tight tee shot through a narrow gap in woodland leads on to a slight dog-leg right. The fairway bunker has been moved inwards to gather up balls hit to the left. A re-shaped greenside bunker and banking can make for a tricky shot to the pin.

A shot to the right can be in trouble - fade to middle of fairway for the clearest approach. May be best with iron or fairway wood.

A long straight shot from the tee is needed here to reach the green in two. The approach to the green is guarded by a trio of bunkers across the front.

The middle bunker protecting the green is set further forward - so choose to go over that one with your approach shot.

The first obvious hazard seen from this tee is a large tree in the middle of the fairway. Strong players who drive over it need to watch out for the stream that crosses the fairway some 285 yards from the white tee. A right-hand fairway bunker and green side bunkers may come into play once the stream is crossed.

Hit over tree straight, or fade (for the right-hander) round from left. Stream angles away the further left you go.

This hole is a par 4 from the white (medal) tee but par 5 from both the yellow and red tees. A path crosses the fairway and trees line both sides all the way to the green.

Keep middle to right down fairway. The shot to the green should be kept short so as to leave an uphill putt.

The easiest hole on the course for the Gents - not so sure! The fairway tips everything right if not careful. An accurate shot is required to miss the deep bunkers at the front left and right sides.

Aim to drive down left side of fairway. The approach will play longer than you expect.

Try to get your drive over the path that runs along the crest of the slope up from the tee. Avoid the green side bunker on the right.

The hole rewards straight, rather than long, shots. Watch the roll off at back right of green.

A straight hole but with a few challenges. A new fairway bunker to the right and an obscured ditch with stream on approach, crosses the fairway in front of the elevated upward sloping green.

A good straight drive slightly left of middle is required, which will bring the green within reach. An off-line approach shot may well kick off the banks of this elevated green.

Your tee shot needs to carry over a large pond with ditch in front to reach the elevated sloping green. Out of bounds to the right and watch out for golfers on the 14th tee to the left.

Take enough club - plays longer than you think.

This hole is a long par 4 from both the white (medal) and yellow tees. A sharp dog-leg right invites a drive over the Hawkhills Beck, but careful judgement is needed - take too much off and you can be in the ditch or out of bounds. Flat green with green-side bunker at front left.

With the ditch angling further away the more right you go, don't take on too much! The green-side bunker protects more at the front left of green than at first appears.

This long par 3 requires a good straight tee shot to avoid three green-side bunkers. The green is slightly elevated with an upward slope at the front.

Keep straight but play slightly short. A good chip and putt will ensure a par.

A dog-leg to the right. The trees to the right and a bunker on the bend of the slight dog-leg right should be avoided. A good second shot over a stream can then reach the slightly raised green.

Plenty of room middle to left of fairway. Beware the run-off at left side of green.

Mature oaks on the left and twin bunkers on the right form a bottleneck as seen from the tee, making for a tight drive. A long second shot is needed to reach the green which tends to tip the ball left to right.

Easier to approach the green from right of fairway, but you'll need to be accurate.

This superb finishing hole starts with a tight drive over heather to the wooded fairway before a right-hand dog-leg after the track. For risk and reward, the strong and brave can cut the corner by playing over the out of bounds to the right. The green is well bunkered to the right and front left, with grassy mounds down both sides. Many a card has been wrecked on this hole and the new hole layout is sure to wreck a few more!

A good shot from the tee gives a choice of second shots. The safe option is between the two large oaks and over the track. A challenging pitch avoiding the greenside bunkers and putt out for your par! Alternatively, does fortune favour the brave for risk and reward? Cut the corner of the dogleg over the trees and go for the green with an eagle chance. If you don't carry, then out of bounds awaits.
